Government Service

Leaves for consulting or providing other services to government agencies.

Intended Use: This type of leave requires the faculty member to submit application materials relating to their intended leave.
Possible Duration: As requested
Restrictions/Constraints: Can be eligible for full or partial pay. See APM 750 for compensation questions. Leaves of more than one year require approval from the SVCAA
Affect Pay: Yes or No
Affect Benefits: Yes or No. Can affect service credits.
Require Use of Sabbatical Credits: No

Jury Duty

No official leave request is necessary; however, the individual must discuss the absence with his/her department chairperson.

Intended Use: Academic appointees are eligible to participate in jury duty at their normal rate and percent of pay. Chairs, or supervisors may request documentation of actual days spent in jury service.
Possible Duration: As necessary
Restrictions/Constraints: When jury duty would create a hardship on the University, the employee may seek postponement and/or excuse from service with a letter from the Department Chair to present to the Court. However, the University cannot guarantee that an excuse will be granted.
Affect Pay: No
Affect Benefits: No
Require Use of Sabbatical Credits: No

Military Leave

Intended Use: Types of military leave that are covered include: Reserve Training Duty; War or National Emergency; National Conscription; Service Related to National Defense.
Possible Duration: Leaves greater than one year require SVCAA approval
Restrictions/Constraints: Individuals who have been in service to UCSD for a full year prior to the military leave will be granted a leave with pay for the first 30 calendar days of military leave.
Affect Pay: Yes or No
Affect Benefits: Yes or No. Can affect service credits.
Require Use of Sabbatical Credits: No
