CAREER OPTIONS
History stresses an understanding of changes that take place in society over time. History majors develop the following skills:
- communicate both orally and in writing,
- capacity to think critically and analytically
- skills in doing research

GRADUATE/PROFESSIONAL SCHOOLS
If you have questions or need assistance in any way, see History's Undergraduate Student Affairs Adviser, HSS 5029, or the Assistant to the Undergraduate Student Affairs Adviser in HSS 5041. Also History faculty are also a good resource for career /graduate school advising.
The study of history is valuable for successful careers in diverse fields (to name a few):

Many students who complete the undergraduate degree in the Department of History go on to graduate/professional schools in a variety of fields, including:

RECOMMENDED PRELAW COURSES
The History department recommends the following upper-division courses for prelaw students:
- HIUS 150 American Legal History
- HIUS 151 American Legal History Since 1865
- HIUS 153 American Political Trials
- HIUS 169 Topic in American Legal and Constitutional History (colloquium)

TEACHING HISTORY
History majors should minor in TEP (Teaching Education Studies) to prepare for a single subject TEP program.

Deciding in what field or type of career is right for you? Doing an internship will help you select a field and gain valuable experience.
Career Services Center offers paid internships and volunteer internships. You can receive academic credit for an internship through the Academic Internship Program located in the Literature Building, Room 3255.
