Undergraduate History Network

The Undergraduate History Network is a student founded and led org that works closely with the Vice Chair for Undergraduates in the department, advocating for and organizing opportunities and resources for undergraduate history students. The organization regularly communicates with faculty and staff in the department to provide feedback on initiatives and advocate for new student facing programs. The UHN also creates its own programs, opportunities, and resources for students, such as a donation library for hard copy course material, an incoming students panel, and a mentor program to help new students transition into UC San Diego and the history department. The organization is aimed at not only supporting the undergraduate history community, but also giving an avenue for students to influence their experience as history majors and minors, gaining leadership skills and networks to use for years to come.

  • President: Grant Mueller

    President: Grant Mueller

    Hometown: Santa Monica, CA

    Year: Junior

Hobbies: In my free time, I like drinking coffee and reading classics, history, philosophy, etc. I also enjoy writing creative pieces and poetry, and I hope to become skilled in legalistic writing as I aspire to become a lawyer. Of all historical topics, I love most the United States in the 1960s. Finally, I love jazz and play it myself.

"I joined UHN because I wanted to be part of a community which would help history students throughout their time at UCSD. College is stressful, so wherever I can, I want to ensure that students have the resources they need to succeed, and a community which they can fall back on. And college should be fun! So I hope that the events we plan this year will help bring students closer together and make their time here more enjoyable. I also know that we have some very talented writers in the history department, so as president, I’ll be working toward creating a history journal which would publish the works of our students and help give them a voice."

Through the UHN, I have grown more immersed in UCSD’s history community, as well as the history discipline at large. My love for history—as well as my relationships with other history scholars—has only blossomed since becoming involved with the UHN."

Hobbies: Painting, crocheting stuffed animals, embroidery, graphic design, watching early 2000s Disney movies

"I joined UHN because I want to help create a safe and welcoming environment for students who are interested in history. I found that having a history major at a STEM heavy university can sometimes feel rather isolating since it has been hard to meet other history majors. It is my hope that I can contribute to fostering an environment where students with history majors, minors, or simply an interest in history can come together and find a community of peers that can support them throughout their time at UCSD."

I joined UHN so that undergraduate students will continue to enjoy the community this organization offers through programs and events."
